Privacy First Architecture: StartReMinder is designed with privacy-by-design. Your tasks, checklists, and schedules are stored exclusively on your own device and/or inside your private personal Google Drive account. We do not store, inspect, process, or sell your tasks on any central company database.
1. Introduction
Welcome to StartReMinder (https://app.startupopinions.com), an intelligent task management and productivity assistant created and operated by Startup Opinions ("we", "us", or "our", accessible at https://www.startupopinions.com). This Privacy Policy transparently details how our application collects, utilizes, and protects information when you use our web application, desktop standalone builds, and integrated Google services.
2. Data Collection and Local Storage Model
StartReMinder minimizes data collection by keeping data client-side and user-sovereign:
- Local Mode: When you use StartReMinder, all tasks, due dates, reminder alarms, checklists, tags, categories, and custom preferences are saved locally on your device within your browser's private Web Storage. No task information leaves your device.
- Google Cloud Integration: When you choose to sign in with Google, StartReMinder uses official Google OAuth 2.0 protocols to connect directly from your browser to Google APIs for private cloud backup and calendar synchronization.
3. Google User Data and API Scopes
StartReMinder requests access only to the minimal necessary Google API scopes required to deliver direct user-facing productivity features:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile & userinfo.email (Non-Sensitive): Used solely to display your account identity (name, email address, and avatar) within the application interface so you can confirm which Google account is active.https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file (Non-Sensitive): Used exclusively to create and update a single dedicated file (StartReMinder/startreminder_data.json) in your own Google Drive. StartReMinder has zero access to view, read, modify, or delete any other files or folders in your Google Drive.https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events (Sensitive): Used strictly to create, update, and remove calendar events corresponding to tasks for which you have configured specific due dates and reminder times. This enables you to receive timely reminders across your phone, smartwatch, and calendar apps. StartReMinder never reads, modifies, or deletes unrelated calendar events on your Google Calendar.
Google API Services User Data Policy Compliance:
StartReMinder's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the
Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. How We Use and Protect Google User Data
- No Central Storage: Your Google Drive task files and Google Calendar events remain completely between your browser and Google's servers. Our web servers never store, log, or inspect your task content or calendar events.
- No Data Selling or Sharing: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or transfer your personal data, Google user data, or task content to third parties, advertising networks, data brokers, or external AI model trainers.
- No Advertising: Google user data is never used to display advertisements or targeted marketing.
- No Human Access: No human, employee, or contractor at Startup Opinions has access to your private task files or calendar events.
5. Security of Information
All communication with Google APIs and application servers occurs exclusively over secure, encrypted TLS/HTTPS protocols. OAuth 2.0 access tokens are held transiently in memory and secure session storage within your browser. Tokens expire automatically and are never exposed or transmitted to unauthorized services.
6. User Control, Data Retention, and Revocation
You have full autonomy over your data at all times:
- Data Export: You can export your entire task database as a JSON file at any time using the Export feature in Settings.
- Data Deletion: You can delete all local data at any time via the Settings menu or by clearing your browser cache. To delete cloud backups, you can delete the
StartReMinder folder directly in your Google Drive.
- Revoke Access: You can revoke StartReMinder's access to your Google Account at any time by visiting your Google Account Security Permissions page. Upon revocation, all access tokens become immediately invalid.
- Sign Out: Clicking "Sign Out" in the application instantly purges all session tokens and authentication state from your browser.
7. Children's Privacy
StartReMinder is a general-purpose productivity tool and does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect service updates or regulatory requirements. Any modifications will be posted to this URL with an updated Effective Date.
